Why Custom Furniture Might be the Perfect Solution for Your Unique Interior Design Situation

I recently finished a project that was a combination of retail furniture and custom furniture. Originally, the client didn't want to go the custom route, because she thought it would be too costly and take too long. These are both common misconceptions, and I was able to show her that in the case of certain pieces she would be much better off going with a bespoke piece than buying off the showroom floor. We ended up having a sofa, television wall unit, swivel chair, coffee table, and storage all custom made, and they turned out beautifully! The effort put into designing the pieces and choosing materials and finishes was well worth it, as they resulted in one-of-a-kind furniture that was EXACTLY what she wanted.

Benefit #1: Quality that Stands the Test of Time

So what are the benefits of commissioning a custom piece? For one, the furniture is constructed for durability and longevity as it is being made as a one-off. This is not something mass-produced in on a factory line; this is being hand-made to exact specifications. In addition to the special care being taken to build the piece, the finished product is also likely to have better warranties and customer service options to support the purchaser than something that is simply purchased at a store. If the piece has any issues (made slightly the wrong size, handles don't quite align, etc.), it will be fixed until it is precisely what was ordered.

Benefit #2: Comfort that is Suited to Your Preferences

Custom furniture also has the benefit of being customizable, so for instance if you have a particularly tall family member who can never quite get comfortable on a standard size sofa, you could design a piece that fits him/her much better. Even beyond adjusting the width and depth, you can specify the filling of the sofa cushions so that it is just the right level of firm and soft to your liking. This is not something that is usually possible when purchasing a regular sofa. In the latter case, you get what you get and you don't get upset.

Benefit #3: Style that is Unique to Your Tastes

Have you ever been in a shop and thought "if only this chair had those legs" or "I wish this pendant light was made in brushed gold instead of silver." Well, the beauty of custom furniture is that it allows this type of style customization: You are able to choose fabrics with specific performance options, play around with arm and leg styles, or add details like brass trim or rounded corners. The beauty of the result  is that not only is it tailor-made to what you want, it also means that you end up with an unique piece that no one else has.

The benefit of working with an interior designer on your home is that we can help you figure out exactly what areas would benefit most from custom, and can draw everything so that the concept is easily understood by the craftsmen in the workshop. We help you select the materials and give advice on maximizing things such as storage while still retaining the exterior beauty of the piece. We also do the installation and follow-up should anything need to be adjusted. Not only is the furniture bespoke, but so is the service provided along with it!
